Greetings from the Greater NY Chapter of USA Dance!

[img:DPlogo]What are you doing tomorrow night? I hope your answer is: "Going to the Pre-Dance Parade Social at Basic Ballroom, of course!" Proceeds from the social will go towards funding our chapter's participation in the fourth annual Dance Parade. If you've already signed up or are planning to sign up at the social, you get $3 off admission to the party. Or, if you would prefer to take the discounted admission by filling out a survey to help us improve our website, that option is available. Either way, we hope you will come out and join us for a night of dancing and socializing. We will also have a raffle drawing where you can win tickets to the 21st Annual MAC, coming up in January. So put on your dancing shoes and join us tomorrow night at Basic Ballroom. The fun starts at 8 pm.

Fans of Swing and George Gee's 17-piece Big Band might be interested to know that starting on May 24 and every Monday thereafter, there will be live music and dancing to the sounds of George Gee's Big Band at Gospel Uptown, at 125th Street and 7th Avenue (Adam Clayton Powell Jr Blvd) in Harlem. The fun begins at 8 pm and goes on until 11 pm. The music charge is $15 with a $20 minimum at the tables and $10 minimum at the bar. If you'd like to kick off your week with some swing music and dancing to the big band sounds of George Gee, Gospel Uptown is the place to be starting on May 24. More details here.
[img:DWTS10byeNiecy]This week on DWTS: Last week, Evan Lysacek took the first set of 10s, and this week was Nicole Scherzinger's turn. With only five contestants left, each "star" had to do two dances, and during the latin portion in the latter half of the show, each contestant randomly picked a time period out of a bowl and had to choreograph their routine to fit that era. Derek and Nicole drew the '50s and had to create a paso doble routine reflecting that decade. From their first confident steps in the paso doble, Derek and Nicole showed that they were up to the challenge. The audience and the judges were blown away and when they flipped their paddles to reveal a perfect set of 10s, no one was surprised. The following night, on the results show, Niecy Nash was eliminated, which also was not surprising (but it was great to see her progress this far into the competition). Chad Ochocinco survives into the semi-finals, but if he makes it past that, well, that would be a surprise. Will he or won't he? I say won't.

Join us on Monday, May 17, at ACME Bar & Grill, at the bar in the back, and let's watch the penultimate competition show for season 10 together.
